to Lhasa and the Tibetan Autonomous Region.
Explore
the historic center of the Tibetan world, including
Jhorkang Temple, the Potala (winter palace of the Dalai
Lama), and Ganden monastery, situated dramatically on
a ridge overlooking the upper Lhasa Valley.
Travel
north onto the high plateau and see Namco Lake, one
of Tibet's largest lakes, in a basin surrounded by glaciated
peaks.
Then
explore Zedang, the cradle of Tibetan civilization.
Fly to Lanzhou and Dunhuang, to see the spectacular
Buddhist caves.
Then
go to Jiayuguan to see the Total Eclipse on August 1,
2008 at the historic entryway to China from the West.
